Remote Guarding

Live Operators. Real-Time Intervention. A Fraction of the Cost of On-Site Guards.

ESI remote guarding uses live camera monitoring and real-time audio intervention to stop threats before they become incidents. Our operators watch your property in real time, not after the alarm fires, and intervene the moment something looks wrong.

Security That Stops Incidents, Not Just Records Them

Traditional security cameras record what happened. Traditional alarm monitoring responds after an alarm triggers. Remote guarding is different: it puts a live operator’s eyes on your property before anything escalates, with the ability to intervene in real time through on-site speakers.

When someone tailgates into a secure area, loiters in your parking lot, or approaches your facility after hours, an ESI remote guarding operator can issue a live audio warning immediately, before a crime occurs, before property is damaged, before an employee feels unsafe. Most incidents end there.

How ESI Remote Guarding Works

  1. Camera coverage assessment: ESI reviews your facility layout and existing camera placement (or designs a new system) to ensure your property has clean, complete coverage of all monitored zones.
  2. Custom monitoring schedule: You define the hours you want active guarding. Many clients choose to run remote guarding during after-hours windows when physical staff aren’t on-site.
  3. Live operator monitoring: During active guarding hours, trained operators watch your camera feeds in real time using a combination of video analytics and human judgment to identify unusual activity.
  4. Real-time audio intervention: When a threat is identified, the operator speaks directly through on-site speakers: “This is a security notice. You are being recorded. Please leave the premises immediately.” The majority of trespassers and vandals leave immediately.
  5. Police dispatch when needed: If the situation escalates or the subject doesn’t comply, the operator contacts local law enforcement with a live visual description of the suspect and their actions, dramatically improving response quality response quality.
  6. Incident documentation: Every intervention is logged and video-documented, giving you a clear record for insurance claims, internal review, or law enforcement follow-up.

Remote Guarding vs. Physical Security Guards

A physical security guard can cover one area at a time. They get tired, they get distracted, and they cost $18–$30 per hour (often more with agency fees, insurance, and benefits). A remote guarding operator can monitor multiple camera feeds simultaneously and never has an off-night.

Where Remote Guarding Delivers the Most Value

Remote guarding is particularly effective for properties with defined perimeter zones, after-hours vulnerability, or a history of trespassing, vandalism, or theft:

  • Parking lots and exterior grounds: After-hours vehicle break-ins, loitering, and vandalism are the most common targets for remote guarding intervention.
  • Construction sites: Equipment theft and material theft from active construction sites can be deterred with real-time monitoring of site perimeters after work hours.
  • Retail after hours: Smash-and-grab attempts and overnight break-ins can be intercepted before entry is achieved, protecting inventory and minimizing property damage.
  • Multi-tenant commercial properties: Property managers can provide a consistent security presence across all tenants’ exterior zones without staffing individual guards.
  • School campuses after hours: Vandalism, trespassing, and after-hours unauthorized access to school facilities are deterred with real-time monitoring and immediate audio response.
  • Healthcare facility perimeters: Unauthorized vehicle access, after-hours loitering near emergency entrances, and restricted parking zones can all be actively managed.

Combining Remote Guarding with Central Station Monitoring

Remote guarding and 24/7 central station monitoring work together, not as alternatives. Remote guarding covers active monitoring windows when the threat is highest; central station monitoring handles alarm response and system oversight around the clock.

For facilities that want both, and want ESI to manage the full security operation, our Managed Security Services program combines system management, monitoring, remote guarding, and proactive maintenance under a single managed contract.
